The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project Link

IMPORTANT: Please ensure that you have carefully followed the instructions for linking to Microsoft Project in the following Document.

http://www.dovico.com/WebPro/pro2/microsoft_project_link.html

The most common causes of a Microsoft Project Link crash are UNC vs. Mapped Network Drive paths, Task Group level assignments and Blank rows. Information on each of these items has been outlined below.

UNC VS. MAPPED NETWORK DRIVE PATHS

DOVICO Timesheet/Track-IT Suite requires that you use a UNC path rather then a Mapped Network Drive path when synchronizing Microsoft Project files.

When opening a Microsoft Project file in the Microsoft Project Link dialog box, browsing to the Microsoft Project file through My Network Places will result in using a UNC path (See image below).

  • Example(Recommended): UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path

\\ServerName\ShareName\Project_Plans\Project.mpp

  • Example (Not Recommended): Mapped Network Drive Path

X:\Project_Plans\Project.mpp

TASK GROUP LEVEL ASSIGNMENTS

The application only supports low level task assignments in Microsoft Project. Assignments to group level tasks are not supported.

Examples:

Lowest level Task Assignments

Group level task assignments (not supported)

BLANK ROWS, TASK NAMES, RESOURCE NAMES, ETC…

The application does not support blank rows in a Microsoft Project file. Any blank rows within a Microsoft Project file must be removed prior to performing the link.

Examples:

Blank task row in the Gantt chart
