This article explains how to migrate DOVICO Timesheet information linked to Microsoft Project Server 2003 to Microsoft Project Server 2007.

Applies to:

  • DOVICO Timesheet version 9
  • Companies upgrading from Microsoft Project Server 2003 to Microsoft Project Server 2007

Because Microsoft introduced some fundamental architecture changes between Project Server 2003 and Project Server 2007, DOVICO Timesheet projects linked to Project Server 2003 must also be migrated. DOVICO Software has created a migration tool to assist in this process.

Prerequisites and Notes

  • You must have already successfully migrated from Project Server 2003 to Project Server 2007 using Microsoft’s Project Server 2007 migration tool.

  • It is very important that no modifications are made to DOVICO Timesheet linked projects in Project Server 2007. This means no new resources, no new projects, no new tasks, etc. If changes have been made, the migration tool may still be able to resolve all object ids but DOVICO will NOT provide any support.

  • Project Server 2003 migration tool stipulates that the resource pool cannot have duplicate resource names. The DOVICO migration tool needs the same stipulation to resolve resource names.

  • Names in the resource sheet must be formatted as: firstname lastname.

  • In previous versions of Project Server, posted project names would appear as ‘projectname.published”. The Microsoft migration tool changes this to ‘projectname_published’. DOVICO’s migration tool will search for ‘projectname_’ to resolve project paths.

  • In previous versions of Project Server, tasks were resolved by getting their TASK_ID within the 2003 database and resolving it to match the TASK_ID in the new 2007 database and then retrieving the TASK_UID for that task. If assignments have been modified in Project Server2007, this resolution may not work.

To use DOVICO migration tool

  1. Download the DOVICO Migration tool from http:\\www.dovicofiles.com\Userfiles\DTv9_ProjectServerMigrationTool.zip
  2. Ensure that both Project Server 2003 and Project Server 2007 are running.
  3. Launch the migration tool executable file.
  4. Select the DOVICO Timesheet database to migrate.
  5. Enter the Connection Information for both Project Server 2003 and Project Server 2007.
  6. Click the Migrate button.

At any point, should any resolutions of objects not work, the entire migration process is rolled back and detailed error information is given. This should assist you in diagnosing any problems that occurred.

  7. (Optional) Select another DOVICO Timesheet database to migrate.
  8. After the migration is complete, update the Microsoft Project Server Connection information in each database migrated.
